On October 3 2019, CrossKnowledge held its annual Client Conference in Paris at the Eiffel Tower Novotel Convention Center: NEXT 2019. Pascal El Grably, Co-Founder, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of CrossKnowledge, started the day with a presentation that expounded on the company’s values and unwavering commitment to its clients: to work together to bridge the skill gap! The day was packed with activities and brought together experts, PhDs, learning engineers, high impact training path designers and valued clients. It was the perfect opportunity for everyone to share their profound convictions and latest insights on digital learning within the corporate learning ecosystem. One of the day’s main highlights was a presentation and live DEMO of the soon-to-be-launched CrossKnowledge solution, CK Connect.
NEXT 2019: the go-to event for L&D professionals
For 8 years, CrossKnowledge has invited its client base and partners to discuss new trends and foresee the future of digital learning. At NEXT 2019, we welcomed 600+ global HR & L&D professionals and business leaders, from 285 organizations and 41 different countries.
Attendees were kept busy thanks to our exciting keynote speakers, engaging breakout sessions, and empowering hands-on workshops. They were also able to make vital connections and share and learn from the best and brightest industry-wide.
The day started with opening remarks from Pascal El Grably, followed by keynote speaker Todd Maddox, Sr. Director of Product Innovation at Wiley Mark Scullard, and Laurie Diethelm, Vice President of Product Development at CrossKnowledge.

The afternoon was dedicated to a series of workshops, where clients came together to learn, share and contribute ideas. In addition, organizations such as Novo Nordisk, Telefonica Brazil and Motorola had the opportunity to present their own stories and lessons learned. Professors Mien Segers and Filip Dochy animated 3 workshops to present their HILL model, used to develop CrossKnowledge learning Paths and its new solution CK Connect.
Closing the event with a memorable keynote speech was Christopher Kutarna, best-selling author and fellow at Oxford Martin School.
Bridging the skill gap with real learning efficiency
With 85% of job success based on well-developed people skills (soft skills) and only 15% based on technical and hard skills, it’s no surprise that this year’s conference focused on how to achieve real learning efficiency in soft skills acquisition. Several experts offered valuable insights. For example, Todd Maddox proposed that efficiency lies in immersive technologies, because they have the potential to engage learners and their emotions in the learning process. As for Mark Scullard, he stressed the importance of creating a personalized learning experience as a more human approach to L&D.
When it comes to real efficiency, CrossKnowledge believes that learning can be accelerated by transforming classroom training into a digital learning environment that connects people for skills acquisition.
